New York City’s Mayor Michael Blomberg ribbed Spider-Man on Broadway at Sunday’s Inner Circle Comedy Show, which is staged each year by current and former City Hall reporters.
Bloomberg dressed up as the superhero to fly over the stage — before experiencing technical difficulties that left him hovering. (The $65 million Broadway show has been plagued with injuries and problems, most recently replacing its choreographer and firing its director, Julie Taymor.)
“Will I be up here long?” Bloomberg jokingly asked a stagehand.
“No,” the stagehand replied, according to the New York Post. “We just have to issue an RFP, get three bona-fide bids, go before the community board, submit a ULURP application, and do an environmental-impact statement — and we’ll have you down and you can grab the train home.”
“That’s not too bad,” Bloomberg said.
“….From the completed Moynihan Station,” added the stagehand, a nod to the renovation of Penn Station and the large Post Office across the street in midtown, which has been delayed for years.
Bloomberg also mocked a number of New York City hot topics, including the new “Ed Koch-Queensboro bridge,” the criticism he faced after the city’s sluggish response to last year’s blizzard and the teacher-tenure debate.
The theme was “Meet the Focker-Uppers,” a reference to the Ben Stiller movie, and a tongue-in-cheek reference to some of his more controversial moments in office.
