Ozzy Osbourne is the latest pop-culture icon to lend a song to the pinnacle of video game soundtracks, Electronic Arts’ “Madden” franchise. Gamers will be able to listen to “I Don’t Wanna Stop” in “Madden NFL 08,” which releases across all platforms Aug. 14. The single is from Osbourne’s first new album in six years, “Black Rain,” which hits stores today.
EA will work with Epic Records on coordinated marketing activities between the album and game.
Last year’s “Madden NFL 07” sold more than 7 million copies and was the No. 1-selling game in North America. The franchise has sold more than 60 million copies and generated more than $2 billion in revenue over the past 18 years.
“The anticipation for both Ozzy’s album and this year’s ‘Madden NFL’ creates a perfect storm of excitement which made ‘I Don’t Want to Stop’ an ideal lead song for the ‘Madden NFL 08’ soundtrack,” said Steve Schnur, EA worldwide executive of music and marketing. “Now, the Prince of Darkness meets the king of video games, and we’re enormously proud to have a killer new song from a legendary artist as our first announced track.”
The single, along with the rest of the new album, is available on EA’s music Web site at www.ea.com/eatrax
In addition to working with such established acts as Green Day, Foo Fighters and Snoop Dogg, EA Trax has helped launch the careers of such artists as Good Charlotte, Jet, Franz Ferdinand, Scissor Sisters, Arctic Monkeys and Fabolous.
Developed in Orlando by EA Tiburon, “Madden NFL 08” will ship for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PC, Xbox, PlayStation 2, GameCube, PlayStation Portable and Nintendo DS.
