Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End,” Fox’s “House” and CBS’ “Two and a Half Men” took home top honors Tuesday at the 34th annual People’s Choice Awards.
“Pirates” was named favorite movie. “House” won in the TV drama series category, while “Men” won for comedy.
The awards show, hosted by Queen Latifah and broadcast on CBS, tweaked its format this year as a result of the writers strike, with production crews traveling the world where the winners were located to film their acceptances speeches. For example, favorite male TV star Patrick Dempsey was at the Daytona International Speedway in Florida and favorite funny male Robin Williams was on a USO tour in Kabul.
Other winners included favorite female TV star Katherine Heigl, favorite female movie star Reese Witherspoon and favorite male movie star Johnny Depp. Ellen DeGeneres was named favorite funny female and favorite talk-show host.
“Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” was named favorite movie drama, while “Knocked Up” won in the comedy category and “The Bourne Ultimatum” took the action nod.
Other TV series winning awards were ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” (reality), NBC’s “Deal or No Deal” (game) and “The Simpsons” (animated).
In the music categories, Justin Timberlake was name favorite male singer, while Gwen Stefani nabbed the female singer award. Rascal Flatts was named favorite group.
