NEW YORK – Progressive media watchdog Media Matters for America, which regularly criticizes Fox News and its corporate parent News Corp., on Thursday won an online auction for $86,000 to have a “friendly lunch” with News Corp. chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch, the Huffington Post reported.
The lunch was listed on the site Charity Buzz and billed as a chance to propose business ideas to the media mogul. The lunch will involved Media Matters founder and president David Brock and five additional guests, with
proceeds to be sent to The Global Poverty Project.
A News Corp. contacted by The Hollywood Reporter had no comment.
“I will soon contact Mr. Murdoch’s office to determine a mutually convenient time and place in New York,” Brock said in a statement obtained by the Huffington Post.
The site highlighted that Media Matters recently received a $1 million check from George Soros to push back against Fox News anchor Glenn Beck.
Fox News recently aired Media Matters’ ad about News Corp’s $1 million donation to the Republican Governors Association after some back-and-forth.
