Pfeiffer: Doggone It!: People know not to drink and drive. Michelle Pfeiffer has had to learn not to imbibe and bid. “I love auctions — I actually bought a dog at an auction,” she told THR on Oct. 27 at the eighth annual Pink Party benefit she co-hosted in Santa Monica for Cedars-Sinai’s women’s cancer program. (The event included a silent charity auction.) “I had way too many glasses of Pinot Grigio, and I came home with a Newfoundland. The next morning, I was like: ‘Do I really have a Newfie in my house?’ So, no alcohol tonight!”
Which top studio exec apparently was so bored by Steven Spielberg‘s speech in honor of Stanley Kubrick at the black-tie LACMA Art + Film Gala on Oct. 27 that he spent its duration playing Bejeweled Blitz on his iPhone in his seat? He was intently focused on his handheld arcade as he sat amid other power tables filled with fellow industry heavyweights including Alan Horn, Brad Grey and Robert Iger. Perhaps he didn’t need to feign interest because his studio doesn’t have any ongoing business with the director.
Lorre’s Vanity Publication
Chuck Lorre celebrated the release of What Doesn’t Kill Us Makes Us Bitter, a collection of his often curmudgeonly end-of-show vanity cards, with a party attended by Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco and Jon Cryer on Oct. 24. How can a man this successful be bitter? “Oh, that’s from when I started 15 years ago,” he says. “Bitter was a reflection of the times. I’m probably more morose now.”
Fergie Goes Wild
Beauty brand Wet n Wild never had a celeb “face” until it chose Fergie as global brand ambassador in March, rolling out a Fergie nail polish line. January will see the debut of Fergie for Wet n Wild, a 21-product line. “She picked all the colors,” says vp marketing Brian Talbot. A typical Wet n Wild polish sells for less than a buck; Fergie’s cost three times that and have sold more than the past two years of Wet n Wild’s nail polish launches combined. “After the nail sales, we decided to do a full Fergie line.” THR hears the company already slipped her a major surprise bonus check in the six figures. Fergalicious, indeed.
