German TV giant ProSieben’s production arm Red Arrow Entertainment Group has acquired a majority stake in Karga Seven Pictures, a TV production company based in L.A. that also has strong ties to the Turkish TV market, with an office in Istanbul.
Financial details weren’t disclosed.
Founded in 2008 by Sarah Wetherbee, Emre Sahin and Kelly McPherson, it is known for factual entertainment, including such shows as History’s Hunting Hitler and Travel Channel’s Booze Traveler.
Karga Seven has produced more than 300 hours of programming. As part of the transaction, Karga Seven has entered into a worldwide distribution deal with Red Arrow’s sales arm, Red Arrow International.
The acquisition of Karga Seven is the latest step in Red Arrow’s expansion in the U.S. production market. Red Arrow’s U.S. companies also include Half Yard Productions, Nerd TV, Kinetic Content, Fabrik Entertainment and Left/Right Productions. Its productions include Bosch for Amazon, Odd Mom Out for Bravo and The Last Alaskans for Animal Planet.
Said Jan Frouman, CEO of Red Arrow: “From the moment we got to know Sarah, Emre and Kelly, it was clear that they would be tremendous additions to our group. We love their approach to development and production, share a common collaborative spirit and feel that we can achieve real U.S. and global growth together.”
Said Wetherbee: “Since we started Karga Seven out of a tiny basement apartment in 2008, we’ve stayed true to three core principles: always have a strong point of view; take risks; and seek out and collaborate with the most talented, passionate people you can find. Those beliefs were integral in our decision to partner with Red Arrow.”
She added: “Their global reach will play a key role in us expanding our scripted and unscripted footprint across various platforms.”
