TORONTO — U.S. video-on-demand webcaster ReelTime.com on Monday struck an agreement with Nelvana for the VOD rights to a selection of the Canadian cartoon producer’s catalogue programming.
The deal, unveiled at NATPE, is the latest for Nelvana as it continues to find new online venues by which to sell its product direct to consumers, said Doug Murphy, president of Nelvana Enterprises, the cartoon producer’s distribution arm.
“Our core business is making great new shows, selling to broadcasters, doing VOD deals and launching franchises. But we also explore opportunities in the direct-to-consumer broadband video world,” Murphy said.
The latest agreement will see ReelTime.com acquire Nelvana titles including “Jacob Two-Two,” “Rupert,” “My Dad the Rock Star” and “Flying Rhino Junior High,” and market them to consumers via a monthly subscription model.
Nelvana earlier in January announced that about 650 library episodes will be available to consumers via the U.K.-based Coolroom download store. .
Toronto-based Nelvana began selling its content direct over the Internet in 2006 when it launched TreehouseDirect as a digital download site.
