Jennifer Connelly has signed with publicity firm 42West. The Oscar winner, who most recently voiced Karen the A.I. in Sony’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, will play Josh Brolin’s wife in Sony’s real-life firefighter drama Only the Brave, which opens Oct. 20. Her other upcoming roles include the female lead in TNT’s Snowpiercer adaptation and a villain in Fox’s Alita: Battle Angel.
UTA has signed comedian Taylor Tomlinson, whom Montreal’s prestigious Just For Laughs festival selected to its 2017 New Faces class. The comic, 23, has been doing stand-up since age 16 and now is a series regular on MTV’s SafeWord. She previously appeared on Adam Devine’s House Party on Comedy Central. Tomlinson continues to be represented by Levity Entertainment Group.
The agency also has invested in millennial parenting guide Fatherly, joining SoftTech VC, Crosslink and Lerer Hippeau Ventures in a $4 million Series A funding round led by BDMI. According to a Fatherly spokesperson, the two-year-old digital media company plans to take advantage of UTA’s client base for podcasting and other original programming opportunities.
Art and commerce
Ondi Timoner, who currently is directing biopic Mapplethorpe, has signed with Saville Productions for U.S. commercial representation. The filmmaker, who won Sundance Grand Jury documentary prizes for 2004’s Dig! and 2009’s We Live in Public, recently made the Viceland docuseries Jungletown. Her narrative feature about Robert Mapplethorpe stars Doctor Who alum Matt Smith as the controversial photographer.
“Ondi is a great director who brings a unique documentary and female perspective to the commercial world,” Saville executive producer Rupert Maconick said in a statement. “I’m excited to see her bring brand campaigns to life.
Timoner’s other credits include 2007’s Join Us, 2010’s Cool It and 2015’s Brand: A Second Coming. “I really enjoy the process of working in the commercial world,” she said in a statement. “It’s challenging in an exciting way, in that one must capture the heart of the story, oftentimes casting on the spot, in a matter of days. Rupert’s body of work in branded content, which he’s created with some of the greatest filmmakers around, impressed me. I also appreciated how selective he is about who he works with.”
