The recently launched joint venture between Europe’s RTL Group and CBS Studios International – RTL CBS Asia Entertainment Network – has appointed two top executives. Jennifer Batty has joined as executive vice president of programming and Daniel Fung is the company’s executive vice president of distribution.
RTL CBS says Batty and Fung will be responsible, respectively, for content and distribution for the company’s two channels: the recently debuted family-oriented RTL CBS Entertainment HD channel and the upcoming male-targeted RTL CBS Extreme HD channel, which is scheduled to debut in early 2014. Batty’s job will be to build program offerings tailored to the interests and sensibilities of Asian audiences, while Fung is responsible for maximizing distribution for the channels across the region. The two TV pros previously consulted for RTL Group on its expansion plans in Asia.
Jonas Engwall, CEO of RTL CBS Asia Entertainment Network, said in a statement: “Jennifer and Daniel are heavyweights with tremendous experience in the Asian pay-TV industry and I am excited to welcome them to our team.”
Prior to consulting for RTL Group in Hong Kong, Batty was vp of programming for 21st Century Fox’s Star World. Fung held various positions at Celestial Pictures, most recently senior vp of distribution and TV networks, before he began work with RTL.
RTL and CBS pacted for RTL CBS Asia Entertainment Network in August. Its two channels will be distributed in more than 20 Asian markets once fully launched.
