Michael Showalter has been tapped to direct “Night of the Living Dorks,” Warner Independent’s remake of the German horror comedy.
Vertigo’s Roy Lee and Doug Davison are producing along with Adam F. Goldberg.
Described as “Revenge of the Nerds” meets “Shaun of the Dead,” the story revolves around three not-so-cool school friends who decide to try an old voodoo ritual. When they later die in a car crash, they find themselves reborn as zombies and try to take advantage of their new lifestyle. Chris Bishop wrote the screenplay.
Showalter, a writer-actor who co-created the comedies “The State” and “Stella,” wrote, directed and starred in 2005’s “The Baxter,” which also starred Elizabeth Banks, Michelle Williams and Paul Rudd.
He is repped by UTA and Principato/Young.
