SiriusXM Radio and SiriusXM Radio Canada have extended their North American rights deal with the NHL to keep broadcasting league games on satellite radio through to the 2021-22 season.
The Canadian market extension for SiriusXM came despite local media giant Rogers Communications having a separate 12-year deal with the NHL for the TV and multimedia broadcast rights to league games in Canada.
Terms of the North American deal extension for SiriusXM were not revealed, but the satellite radio giant’s current ten-year, $100 million deal with the NHL lapsed when the league’s 2015 season ended.
The new deal will see SiriusXM broadcast live NHL games across North America from the pre-season through the Stanley Cup final. The NHL will also start co-producing SiriusXM NHL Radio with SiriusXM.
“We are very pleased to renew and expand on our relationship with the league to continue providing those fans with a level of coverage that matches their passion,” Scott Greenstein, SiriusXM’s president and CCO, said in a statement Tuesday. SiriusXM also provides coverage of the NFL, NASCAR, MLB, NBA, PGA TOUR and other professional sports.
