PARK CITY — Ahead of Saturday evening’s full Sundance awards show, Alex Rivera’s sci-fi thriller “Sleep Dealer” won the $20,000 Alfred P. Sloan Prize recognizing excellence in science and technology in filmmaking.
“Dealer,” an official entry in the Sundance dramatic competition, is a “1984”-style tale of a man struggling with mind control in a totalitarian society. Rivera’s Spanish-language debut feature was produced by Anthony Bregman for Likely Story and is generating sales buzz.
The Sloan jury is comprised of Alan Alda, director Michael Polish, author Evan I. Schwartz and scientists Benedict Schwegler Jr. and John Underkoffler.
UTA and attorney Andrew Hurwitz are repping sales of the film.
