David Fincher’s “The Social Network” has been selected as the opening night film for the 48th annual New York Film Festival, which kicks off Sept. 24 and runs through Oct. 10.
The movie, directed by Fincher from a screenplay by Aaron Sorkin, recounts the founding of Facebook by a group of Harvard undergrads beginning in 2003.
Based on the book “The Accidental Billionaires” by Ben Mezrich, the film stars Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield and Justin Timberlake and is produced by Scott Rudin, Dana Brunetti, Michael De Luca and Cean Chaffin.
Following “Network’s” world premiere at the New York fest, Sony will release the movie on Oct. 1.
