More trouble for Spider-Man on Broadway.
Choreographer Daniel Ezralow, who designed the show’s intricate flying sequences, will be replaced, two sources tell Bloomberg News.
Chase Brock, a Brooklyn dancer in his late twenties, is likely to replace Ezralow, the insiders said. Brock is best known for choreographing the Encores! revival of Lost in the Stars at New York City Center last February. His last Broadway credit was as an choreographer assistant in the 2003 revival of Wonderful Town. Brock danced on Broadway as a teenager in the revival of The Music Man.
Ezralow, who has been praised for his 40 mph flying sequences, has long worked with Julie Taymor, the director who was forced out of the show earlier this month and replaced by Philip William McKinley. He contributed to her 2007 film Across the Universe and her 2000 Broadway show The Green Bird.
He has also staged shows for David Bowie, Sting and U2. Bono and The Edge wrote the music for Spider-Man, which is the most expensive show in Broadway history at $65 million.
“We knew that guy was never coming back,” a principal in the cast, referring to Ezralow, told Bloomberg News, calling him “a Julie person.”
Spider-Man will open on June 14. It began previews on Nov. 28.
Ellen Jacobs, who reps both Brock and Ezralow, referred The Hollywood Reporter to Rick Miramontez, a spokesman for Spider-Man. Miramontez told THR, “We’re not commenting on this speculation.”
