Galloway, a Cambridge graduate, joined THR in 1993, expecting it to be a one-year gig. "Almost 20 years later, it has come to define my life," he says wryly. In addition to writing, he is devoted to THR's mentorship program, which pairs inner-city girls with top industry women.
Marc RoyceOscar-nominated directors David O. Russell and Alfonso Cuaron will hit Loyola Marymount’s campus next month as part of a new series, The Masters.
Moderated by The Hollywood Reporter executive features editor Stephen Galloway, The Masters brings distinguished filmmakers to the campus for 90-minute discussions on the scope of their career, using clips and archival footage of their work. Taped before a live audience, the series is open to students only and complements THR‘s Oscar Roundtables.
“It’s important for [our students] to learn from and be inspired by the career paths of some of the most established talent in the industry,” LMU’s School of Film and TV dean Stephen Ujlaki said in a statement.
Galloway was named LMU School of Film and TV’s Cosgrove Family Distinguished Visiting Artist for 2014, and will also interview former Paramount CEO Sherry Lansing, Judd Apatow, John Singleton, William Friedkin and Gary Ross through the spring semester.
“All too often, filmmakers speak about individual projects and not their work as a whole. What makes this series so thrilling is that we’ll get the chance to look at the entire body of work of some of the most brilliant people in motion pictures,” Galloway said. “These are extraordinary talents, and they will make for extraordinary interview subjects.”
An interview with Cuaron kicks off the series on Feb. 12 followed by Russell on Feb. 21.
