Harry Potter actor Michael Gambon has joined the cast of Metanoia, a biopic starring David Tennant as acclaimed Scottish psychiatrist RD Laing.
Robert Mullan (Letters to Sofija) will direct the project, which co-stars Elisabeth Moss. Shooting is set to start in January. Charlotte Arden and Harriet Hammond are producing, with executive producers Phin Glynn and Peter Dunphy. The film is a co-production between Gizmo Films and Bad Penny Productions.
Metanoia chronicles the life of Laing, a pioneering psychiatrist of the mid 20th century, known for his work with psychotic and schizophrenic patients, as well as for his advocating the medical use of LSD, still legal at the time.
Double Dutch International has picked up world-wide sales rights to the project and is shopping the film to buyers at TIFF.
