Viacom’s Viacom International Media Networks unit is expanding the footprint of its Paramount Channel, unveiling on Thursday that it will launch it in Italy on Feb. 27.
The film channel is an international brand that first launched in Spain in 2012, followed by France in 2013. Launches in Hungary, Russia, Romania, Sweden and Poland followed, and the channel also soon launched across Latin America.
With the Italian launch on digital terrestrial television, the Paramount Channel will reach more than 90 million households worldwide, making it the most widely distributed global ad-supported movie channel, according to the company.
“We are excited to announce the arrival of Paramount Channel in Italy,” said Raffaele Annecchino, executive vp and managing director for VIMN South Europe, Middle East and Africa. “Paramount Channel is already present in several of our territories and the expansion into Italy further strengthens the position of Paramount Channel as the fastest-growing brand in VIMN’s international portfolio. In Italy, we look forward to offering a unique programming lineup with exciting content that our audiences will love.”
Michael Armstrong, executive vp and general manager of international brand development at VIMN added: “Paramount Channel has been an important addition to the VIMN portfolio and demonstrates the power of combining the iconic Paramount brand with VIMN’s expertise in building global brands.”
