Viacom’s Viacom International Media Networks unit will launch its Paramount Channel in Thailand, marking the network’s entry into Asia, it was announced Monday.
The Paramount Channel has been one of the growing network brands of VIMN. It first bowed in Spain in 2012 and has since debuted in France, Russia, Romania, Hungary and Latin America. At the end of this month, it is also being introduced in Italy.
VIMN has secured its first distribution deal for the channel in Asia with pay TV operator CTH, which will launch it on its satellite TV and over-the-top streaming services in May.
Financial details weren’t disclosed. The agreement also includes a new licensing deal for MTV Thailand.
“The introduction of Paramount Channel in Asia is a key, strategic step in deepening our presence both in Thailand and in Asia, while expanding our portfolio of adult-targeted brands,” said Mark Whitehead, executive vp and managing director for VIMN Asia.
Said CTH CEO Amarit Sukhavanij, “We’re proud to be the first to offer Paramount Channel in Asia and to make it the first 24-hour movie channel available to our subscribers across multiple screens.”
Paramount Channel is an advertising-supported movie channel with a total international reach of more than 90 million households, including the Thailand launch.
Under the deal, CTH will manage advertising sales together with VIMN Asia for both Paramount Channel and MTV Thailand.
