Vice Media has launched its sports vertical, Vice Sports, with five regular series that will feature interviews with Super Bowl champion Marshawn Lynch, basketball star Blake Griffin and Angels pitcher C.J. Wilson.
The male-focused digital content studio announced its plans to grow its video network in May. It also operates news, music, technology and food verticals.
Vice Sports launches with about a dozen pieces of editorial content a day and new video programming meant to provide a unique take on popular sports and the famous athletes who play them. The slate includes Off Day, which will look at the athletes’ hobbies outside of sports. A trailer for the series shows baseball’s Wilson driving race cars and Seahawks running back Lynch discussing his love of wearing grills.
Athletes After the Fact, meanwhile, will feature sports stars who have retired and catch fans up on what they do away from the public eye. Former shooting guard Desmond Mason, for example, spends a lot of his time on abstract art.
Also available is Fanfare, a series devoted to profiling sports’ most dedicated fans around the world, interview show Vice Sports Meets and The Cusp, which will profile athletes on the rise.
