Buena Vista Home Entertainment said it definitely will not follow Warner Bros.’ lead in releasing movies on a dual-format, next-generation high-definition disc. “No way,” a spokesman said when asked whether Disney would consider using the “Total HD Disc,” with Blu-ray Disc content on one side and HD DVD content on the other. At this month’s Consumer Electronics Show, Warner chief Barry Meyer presented the disc as an antidote to the “consumer confusion and hesitancy” that comes from having two rival, incompatible formats slug it out in the marketplace. But Disney is sticking to its Blu-ray-only guns.
WHV goes Bowl-ing
Once again, Warner Home Video and NFL Films will release this year’s Super Bowl champions DVD on Feb. 27, just 23 days after the big game. The DVD ($25) will spotlight the winning team — the Chicago Bears or the Indianapolis Colts — with highlights from the regular season, the playoffs and the Super Bowl, along with such extras as interviews with key players and coaches and behind-the-scenes footage. The disc comes packaged with a collectible insert with statistics and a photograph of the winning team.
Ragosine joins Fox
Home video industry veteran Dorrit Ragosine has been appointed vp public relations at 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, reporting to senior vp corporate and marketing communications Steve Feldstein. She will focus on consumer press for new releases, catalog and TV-DVD titles. Ragosine, who previously ran publicity at Paramount Home Entertainment, most recently launched the domestic public relations department at MGM after the studio consolidated its global home entertainment activities with Fox.
