Warner Bros. had an especially bad week on the piracy front. The Town, released by the studio in September and not scheduled for home video until Dec. 17, was the most-downloaded movie on torrent websites. At No. 2 was another Warners film, Inception, which will be released tomorrow on DVD and Blu-Ray. The studio also is contending with a circulating bootleg of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, a movie still going strong in theaters.
Here are the ten most pirated films last week, according to TorrentFreak:
- The Town
- Inception
- Despicable Me
- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part 1)
- Easy A
- Skyline
- Legend of the Guardians
- The Sorcerer’s Apprentice
- The Social Network
- Devil
On the music front, Lady Gaga was one of the victims of an alleged hacking scheme. German police are reportedly investigating two individuals for using a trojan horse virus to hack into the computers of Gaga, Justin Timberlake and Ke$ha. The virus allegedly resulted in several stolen songs and forced the artists to move up release dates.
A German newspaper quotes one of the accused individuals of saying: “I’m a fan and I just wanted to have cool music. I’m no blackmailer.”
Finally, in television, AMC‘s The Walking Dead has become the most pirated TV show. Several torrent websites report the show — whose premiere episode actually leaked ahead of its debut on television — is the top download.
