Warner Bros. Television Group (WBTVG) on Monday completed its takeover of the international operations of reality TV giant Eyeworks, sealing a deal to acquire all of Eyeworks’ operations outside the U.S.
The deal includes Eyeworks’ businesses in 15 countries across Europe, South America and Australia/New Zealand and greatly strengthens WB Television’s international TV production capabilities.
“This is an exciting day for Warner Bros. International Television Production, as we grow our on-the-ground production operations by 13 territories,” said Ronald Goes, executive vp and head of Warner Bros. International Television Production, the division launched by WBTVG in 2009 to set up small-screen production operations worldwide. “We’ve long admired the way that Eyeworks has been built into a global player in TV production, and we’re proud that today it becomes part of the Warner Bros. family.”
As part of the agreement, WB Television Group will also take over all of Eyeworks’ international distribution activities for both formats and finished product. The Dutch-based company is one of the leading producers of reality and game-show formats, with such titles as The Biggest Loser and Celebrity Splash on its roster.
Warner Bros. first announced its plans to buy Eyeworks’ international business in February as part of the studio’s international expansion strategy. The deal follows WBTVG’s acquisition of U.K. production house Shed Media in 2010 and Benelux group BlazHoffski in 2011.
