Matthew Frankel is joining the Weinstein Co. as chief communications officer and senior vp corporate affairs.
Frankel, who had been serving as vp corporate communications at Rainbow Media Holdings, will be based at the Weinstein Co.’s New York office, where he will report to co-chairmen Bob and Harvey Weinstein. He steps into his new role Nov. 26.
Julie Cloutier will continue to serve as director of corporate communications, focusing on media relations. She joined Miramax in 2004 and moved with the Weinsteins to the Weinstein Co. when the company launched in 2005.
Sarah Levinson Rothman, who has been head of corporate communications at the Weinstein Co., is stepping down as vp corporate communications but will continue to serve as a consultant to the company. Rothman led the search that brought in Frankel.
Said the Weinsteins, “For the past seven years, Sarah’s keen insights, tireless work ethic, strong relationships and sound counsel have helped drive the growth of our companies and made her an invaluable member of our team.”
Frankel spent six years at Rainbow, the programming subsidiary of Cablevision, where he led business press and trade relations for Rainbow and each of its entertainment brands along with overseeing the company’s industry relations and public affairs work. Frankel directed such efforts as the launch of IFC in Theaters, the day-and-date film initiative; the premiere of Voom HD Networks; and the opening of the IFC Center in Greenwich Village.
Before that, Frankel worked in politics, serving as communications director for the Democratic Leadership Council, press secretary for Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., and as press aide for Rep. Richard Gephardt, D-Mo.
