Charles King has wasted little time building out his executive team since announcing the formation of multicultural media firm MACRO in early January.
The former William Morris Endeavor agent has hired three founding executives. Filling a key business role for the company is Ron Hohauser, who has assumed the position of acting chief financial officer. The veteran film financier was most recently CFO at Exclusive Media and was also previously with Summit Entertainment.
“We are indeed in a new moment for creative, more reflective African-American, Latino, and multicultural content for TV and film,” Hanks said. “I find myself fortunate to be able to work with Charles in showcasing these incredible voices.”
On the digital side, MACRO has named Michael Palank vp digital and business development. Palank, who was previously at Will Smith‘s Overbrook Entertainment, has worked with a number of startups in the tech and e-commerce space. He will work to bring business opportunities and develop strategy across content, technology and brand marketing.
“Millennials are customers of new models — MACRO is the answer, and I am elated and honored to be a part of its inception,” said Palank. “We are at an incredible juncture in our society and world, and MACRO has created a model that is lock step with the new reality.”
All three executives will be based out of MACRO’s Los Angeles office effective immediately.
King left WME after several years with the agency to launch MACRO, which he envisions as a multi-platform content company that is focused on African-American, Latino and multicultural markets. The company has already lined up projects from Ryan Coogler (Fruitvale Station) and Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow).
