WME has signed Last Chance U director Greg Whiteley, The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively learned. He previously was with ICM Partners.
The six-episode docuseries, which follows the football team at East Mississippi Community College, hit Netflix on July 29, and the streaming service already has ordered a second season, which will see Whiteley return at the helm.
The documentarian made his directorial debut in 2005 with punk profile New York Doll, which was nominated for Sundance’s Grand Jury Prize. His follow-up, Resolved, won the audience award for best documentary feature at the Los Angeles Film Festival in 2007. His most recent full-length documentaries saw him exploring the U.S. educational system in Most Likely to Succeed and 2012 GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney in Mitt, both of which premiered at Sundance to a warm reception.
Whitely continues to be repped by manager Chris Davey at Media Talent Group.
