TFI puts on ‘Jammies’
CANNES — TF1 International, the worldwide distribution arm of French media group TF1, has signed a 10-year distribution deal for FarCor Studios’ animated weekly children’s series “Da Jammies,” the companies said Monday at MIPCOM. TF1 bought all licensing rights to the music video-style cartoon — excluding merchandising and DVD sales — for all territories outside of North America. “Jammies” revolves around six suburban kids who sing, rap and dance their way to fame. “Together with TF1 International we are charting a responsible course with this property,” FarCor co-president Dwayne Corbitt said.
Banff fest goes to jury
TORONTO — The Banff World Television Festival on Monday unveiled four new prizes and said it plans to revamp how it honors the best in international TV. Festival organizers said the 29th installment of the Banff Rockie Awards in June will include first-time juried competitions for best environmental programs and best social and humanitarian programs. The festival also has expanded its best of category awards within the children’s, family and youth categories and in each of the entertainment, documentary and drama categories.
Krabbe pic has ‘Wings’
AMSTERDAM — Dutch actor Jeroen Krabbe next year will shoot his third film as director, his producer Hans Pos said Monday. Based on the 1993 novel “Rico’s Wings,” by Dutch writer Rasha Peper, the story revolves around a love affair between a 60-year-old man and a boy of 14. “It is some kind of variation on ‘Death in Venice,’ ” Pos, of Amsterdam-based Shooting Star Co., said of the €3 million ($4.2 million) production. The film will be shot in English, with locations likely in the Netherlands and Morocco.
