Wild on Italy
ROME — France’s Wild Bunch is joining forces with Italian distributor BIM Distribuzione in a wide-reaching strategic alliance, BIM said Thursday. The official announcement of the alliance, which includes a capital investment in BIM, will come today. But BIM founder Valerio De Paolis said that the companies will be partners, effective immediately. “The two companies will collaborate in terms of acquisitions and co-productions,” he said. Among the films the newly bolstered BIM will distribute are Ang Lee’s “Lust, Caution,” “Youth Without Youth” from Francis Ford Coppola and “Shine a Light” from Martin Scorsese.
What’s in a name?
MADRID — Woody Allen’s Barcelona project now has a title, “Vicky Cristina Barcelona,” Spanish production house Mediapro said Thursday. “Vicky” stars Scarlett Johansson, Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem in a film the director described only as a “love letter to Barcelona.” A co-production between Gravier and Barcelona-based Mediapro, with collaboration by Spanish broadcaster Antena 3, the film is set for release in Spain in fall.
Into the Woods
International TV production group Woods TV has appointed Jacques de Suze to the newly created post of director of international development. He was previously senior director of station development at Canada’s Chum International, the Canadian TV station format provider, and has long experience in working many overseas territories. Woods TV, based in Paris, with offices in Los Angeles and Dublin, specializes in localizing content for channels such as Discovery, MTV and ESPN.
