Yari Film Group Releasing, which jumped into the distribution waters in 2006 with “The Illusionist” grossing nearly $40 million, was unable to duplicate that feat with the full slate of releases it issued in 2007. It has seen some coin from its Christmas-themed release “The Perfect Holiday,” starring Morris Chestnut as a mall Santa, which has gifted the company with $5.5 million to date. But the Rod Lurie-directed drama “Resurrecting the Champ” and the Jamie Kennedy comedy “Kickin’ It Old Skool” returned just $3.2 million and $4.5 million, respectively. As a producer, Bob Yari had better luck with “The Hoax,” Lasse Halstrom’s portrait of trickster Clifford Irving as portrayed by Richard Gere, which grossed $7.2 million as a Miramax release.
