COLOGNE, Germany — German public broadcaster ZDF has joined forces with Canada’s CBC to co-produce a multimillion-dollar documentary series on modern-day India, the companies said Thursday.
The project, titled “India Reborn,” will examine the impact of the country’s recent economic boom by looking at a cross-section of Indian society, from billionaire capitalists to rural farmers to the emerging middle class.
CBC will produce three of the four hour-long episodes. ZDF will produce the other. All episodes will be produced in high definition.
ZDF’s sales arm ZDF Enterprises will co-produce and handle international sales duties on the project, which it will shop next week at the MIPCOM television market in Cannes.
Welsh public broadcaster S4C and France 5 will act as co-producers.
“Reborn” is intended as a sequel to “China Rises,” the documentary series co-produced by ZDF, CBC and New York Times TV.
