Oscar winners, studio heads and tech geeks will gather in Zurich next month for the 4th annual Zurich Summit, the film industry meet held during the Zurich Film Festival.
Providing some star power this year will be Academy Award–winning actress Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl), who will be wearing her producer hat, discussing the making of Euphoria, an upcoming Swedish-German co-production from director Lisa Langseth which Vikander produced and stars in.
Among the seasoned production execs speaking in Zurich this year are John Lesher (Birdman), Greg Shapiro (The Hurtlocker) and Christine Vachon (Carol), who will share their insights on the challenges of producing and releasing films for a global audience. In a similar vein, Sony Pictures Classic’s Co-President Michael Barker and Lionsgate Chairman Patrick Wachsberger will discuss the future of the studio model with uber agent Roeg Sutherland of Creative Artists Agency.
Digital disruption and new formats such as VR will be another focus of discussion in Zurich this year, with talks from the likes of Pascal Berard, a tech researcher at Zurich’s ETH/Disney Lab on virtual actors, and a live VR writers room featuring Digital Jam founder Tanya Laird and Toby Coffey, head of digital development at the London National Theatre, who will discuss interactive storytelling and the creative processes in the VR world.
The 2017 Zurich Summit runs Sept. 30-Oct. 1.
The 13th Zurich Film Festival runs Sept. 28-Oct.8.
