An Adam McKay podcast in collaboration with Sony Music Entertainment has arrived.
Things You Don’t Need to Know from host Ari Cagan released its first two episodes on Thursday. McKay, via his Hyperobject Industries production company, is executive producing the 30-episode show, which examines random topics through a humorous lens.
In the first episode, Cagan, a 19-year-old YouTube creator with 65,000 subscribers, interviews a retired Marine Corps explosives expert about how to dispose of a bomb. Future episodes will spotlight beating the house at a casino, repossessing an airplane, working as a pickup artist, dropping out of middle school and other topics.
“Ari Cagan feels like he was raised in a country where he was the sole citizen,” McKay said in a statement. “He is a total original. There’s no one I’d rather learn things from that I probably won’t need to know.”
Other executive producers on the project are Adam Davidson and Laura Mayer of Three Uncanny Four and Harry Nelson of Hyperobject.
“This podcast is a bit of everything. It’s like a job fair, you get a little taste. You won’t be able to defuse a bomb after listening but maybe you’ll decide air traffic controller is a career you’d like to pursue,” Cagan said. “I’ve spent my life creating videos, I’d never even listened to a podcast before making this, and I think it’s resulted in a rather unique mix of different genres.”
McKay has also teamed up with Sony Music and Three Uncanny Four for narrative podcast Death at the Wing, which will look at the deaths of several young basketball stars in the 1980s and 1990s.
