AOL Music is shutting down and layoffs will occur, according to staff members posting the news on Twitter.
“All of AOL Music is shutting down. Thank you all for your support. We had such a blast,” read a tweet, later deleted, from the official account of AOL Music site Spinner.
Sarah Chazan, editor in chief of AOL Music, wrote: “Loved being the Editor in Chief of #aolmusic, #spinner, #theboombox, #noisecreep and #theboot for the past year. Best team in music.”
“Well, we all just got laid off. AOL Music is finished,” wrote Spinner’s editor Dan Reilly. He later added, however, a tweet saying, “Maybe you haven’t heard the last of Spinner. I don’t know.”
When contacted by THR, AOL chose not to comment.
After the split from Time Warner, AOL has oriented itself as a brand-centric web company. CEO Tim Armstrong led the acquisition of The Huffington Post in 2011 and since then some standalone AOL web brands, including PopEater and Politics Daily, were integrated into the news and aggregation website.
