Bunim/Murray Productions has hired former Endemol executive John P. Roberts as its chief digital officer. Roberts will lead Bunim/Murray’s digital division, BMP Digital.
Roberts was most recently senior vp digital media and commercial ventures at Endemol, where he was responsible for developing new digital and commercial business opportunities in North America and oversaw original digital productions, interactive TV, social games and mobile apps. At Bunim/Murray, Roberts will focus on increasing the company’s digital productions, including multiplatform and digital programming for the web, mobile devices and other online and connected-device distribution platforms.
“Bunim/Murray is the best in the business when it comes to storytelling. They laid the foundation for unscripted TV and were pioneers in shining a spotlight on relatable, everyday people. This created the groundwork for much of the content that’s thriving on digital platforms today,” Roberts said in a statement. “My goal is to continue to build momentum and guide BMP Digital to the next level of content creation across all platforms, including video, games and social media.”
Before joining Endemol, Roberts was senior vp digital content and cross-platform entertainment at The Hub, Discovery Communications and Hasbro’s joint venture, which was recently renamed Discovery Family Channel. He also previously worked at the old News Corp., establishing Fox.com and serving on the launch team for Fox’s FX. He has been nominated for four Emmys in interactive television.
Bunim/Murray also announced that its director of digital media, Kesila Childers, has been promoted to vp BMP Digital. She will continue to oversee digital extensions of Bunim/Murray shows like The Real World, Bad Girls Club and The Challenge, as well as original digital content and social media initiatives.
