Cadence13’s first slate of audio features will include a horror project, a noir mystery and a psychological thriller.
The Entercom-owned podcast company is preparing to launch a batch of movie-length scripted podcasts, dubbed C13Features, later this year. This will mark the company’s first foray into fiction podcasts. Its previous originals have included unscripted shows Once Upon a Time… In the Valley and Gangster Capitalism.
The new podcast banner, the brainchild of Cadence13 chief content officer Chris Corcoran, is being supported by Endeavor Content, which will bring its relationships to the slate as well as work to develop film and TV projects based on the IP.
Entercom will help promote the shows to listeners through a marketing rollout that will include its portfolio of radio stations and digital brands.
“We’ve been disciplined and strategic, finding the right stories, writing, and characters that we feel meet our ambitious creative expectations,” Corcoran, who will serve as executive producer on all C13Features projects, said in a statement. “This is an opportunity to bring storytelling to the world in a brand-new, easily digestible experience, to create ‘movies for your ears.’ I can’t wait to bring these first three original audio features to life in this fashion.”
C13Features’ initial slate will be made up of three titles. Treat — written by Nathan Ballingrud with Babak Anvari and Lucan Toh of Two & Two Pictures — tells the story of a seemingly perfect American town that turns to a mysterious Piper to help it recover from social turmoil. When the town falls behind on its payment to the Piper, a trio of teenagers must unlock the secret of his powers.
Ghostwriter, from Alix Sobler with Best Case Studios, follows Kate Michaels, a writer who is offered work ghostwriting a new novel about a mysterious killer. As she collaborates with the idiosyncratic billionaire behind the project, she finds herself growing dependent on him and sure that something isn’t right. Soon she comes to suspect that the story she’s writing isn’t fiction.
The Followers, written by Brett Neichin, is about newly married social media influencers who are traveling the world on their honeymoon when a pair of strangers start following them. Their trip is turned upside down as a sinister force begins to imitate their photos and frame them for murder.
“We are thrilled to be working with world class creative talent to explore a new and exciting way to launch film franchises, together with our partners at Cadence13, bringing premium movies to podcast listeners, and then expanding these worlds across film and television,” Lorenzo De Maio, executive vp of TV advisory and audio for Endeavor Content, said in a statement. “In today’s growing content landscape, this is yet another unique opportunity to bring compelling storytelling to audiences worldwide.”
