The wait is almost over for professionals who have been anticipating developments from Canon, Red and Avid Technology.
All three companies are slated to make separate announcements on Thursday.
Canon had sent out a save the date notice back in September, saying that on Nov. 3 it would make a “historic global announcement.”
More recently, Canon revealed that Martin Scorsese will appear at its event, tomorrow on the Paramount lot. It also said it would “showcase Canon’s commitment to play a larger role in the film and television production community.”
There is some speculation in the cinematography community that the announcement would involve a high quality new camera, but Canon isn’t talking.
Red—maker of the Red One and Epic digital cameras—will reveal information about its previously announced Scarlet camera system at Red Studios in Hollywood.
Jim Jannard—also the founder of Oakley—previously posted this message on the Red User blog: “November 3rd is the day that Red announces all the changes to Scarlet and shipping info. You get to see the future Nov. 3rd. You get to compare Red’s latest directly with the newest from one of the ‘big dogs’ in the industry.”
Avid is understood to be planning to announce a new version of its Media Composer editing system. The company, however, is not commenting.
At the International Broadcasting Convention in September, Avid presented technical demonstrations of future tools for Media Composer, including support for the DNxHD 4:4:4 format, new 3D capabilities, and closer integration with Avid’s audio postproduction system ProTools. Presumably some of these features might be included in its next version.
Avid has also scheduled a Media Composer-related live webcast at 1:00 ET on Nov 3.
