Charles King’s multicultural media company is turning its attention to digital.
Macro has tapped Aaliyah Williams as vp digital content and production, where she will oversee the development of a slate of digital content that showcases diverse talent in front of and behind the camera.
Wiliams has been working in the digital space for a number of years, most recently founding and running production and creative strategy company Just A Rebel. She also ran content for Russell Simmon’s All Def Digital and produced content for AOL and Fox Digital Studio. Wiliams has been consulting with Macro since November but has now joined the team full-time.
“I couldn’t be more excited to have Aaliyah join us at Macro,” said King, who started Macro in 2015 after years as an agent at WME. “Her expansive knowledge of the digital arena, creative instincts and intelligence makes her a perfect addition to our team.”
Added Williams: “We have a compelling slate of projects with incredibly talented and diverse creators that we are excited to bring to market.”
Her first project is scripted comedy Gente-Fied with executive producer America Ferrera.
The push into digital production — which King has planned since the founding of Macro — comes as the company also has started to assemble a slate of film projects. Macro has partnered with Paramount Pictures and Bron Studios to produce and finance Denzel Washington starrer Fences and is in preproduction on Mudbound starring Jason Mitchell, Garrett Hedlund, Carey Mulligan and Jason Clarke.
