Dax Shepard is joining the podcasting ranks.
The CHiPS writer-actor-director has launched audio series Armchair Expert, through which he will seek to learn human truths from his interview subjects.
Shepard will use his decade of sobriety, degree in anthropology and years of improv training to become an armchair expert about the human condition. At the end of each episode, his statements will be independently fact-checked.
“I love talking to people,” Shepard said in a statement. “I am endlessly fascinated by the messiness of being human, and I find people who are vulnerable and honest about their struggles and shortcomings to be incredibly sexy. I invite you to join me as I explore other people’s stories. We will celebrate their work and successes, but more importantly the challenges and setbacks that ultimately lead to growth and betterment.”
Shepard has already banked 10 episodes of Armchair Expert. The first three episodes — featuring his wife, Kristen Bell; Ashton Kutcher; and Joy Bryant — are available on Apple Podcasts, Stitcher and Google Play. Additional guests will include Jimmy Kimmel, Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz and musician Van Hunt.
Shepard is one of several actors who have taken to podcasting in recent years. Comedian Marc Maron and actor Kevin Pollak were some of the first to launch interview podcasts. Anna Faris and Alec Baldwin have also started shows in recent years.
