Digital production company Indigenous Media has tapped two new executives as it prepares to ramp up production next year.
The company announced Thursday that Ben Fast has joined as executive vp development. He comes to Indigenous from The Weinstein Co., where he was director of scripted television and worked on such projects as the limited-series adaptation of War & Peace, which is set to premiere on Lifetime, A&E and History in January. Prior to joining TWC, Fast wrote and produced several digital shorts.
Maira Nevarez has also joined Indigenous as executive vp finance and operations. She comes from E! and Esquire, where she was vp finance. Nevarez also spent time at Paramount and Univision.
Indigenous Media was founded in 2014 by Jon Avnet (Black Swan), Rodrigo Garcia (In Treatment) and Jake Avnet, the team behind YouTube channel and digital-media firm WIGS. The company’s first project is a filmmaker incubator with Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games) that will identify a handful of young-adult focused screenplays from the Black List that will be developed into shorts and, potentially, feature-length projects.
“We are looking forward to ramping up development and production of content across multiple platforms in 2016, which is why we are expanding our senior management team,” Jon Avnet said in a statement, with Garcia adding, “Ben and Maira bring strong traditional media experience coupled with entrepreneurial spirit and digital know-how.”
Both Fast and Nevarez will report to Jake Avnet.
