Felicia Day‘s Geek & Sundry is adding a vampire drama to its lineup of web series.
The digital media firm announced Monday the start of principal photography in Texas on Morganville: The Series, a web series based on the Morganville Vampires novels by Rachel Caine. Directed by Blake Calhoun, the series follows college student Claire Danvers who discovers that her rural college town is home to the last remaining vampires.
Amber Benson (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) stars as the founder of Morganville. Robert Picardo (The Mentalist), Lindsay Seidel (Throwing Stones), Ben Easter (After Life), Haileigh Todd (Locked) and Jordan Tanner Farris (Higher Mission) also star. The series is produced by Pen Ultimate Productions, Loud Pictures, and Day and her Geek & Sundry co-founder, Sheri Bryant.
“Our digital network continues to grow its scripted show slate with high-quality content that our community really engages with,” Bryant said. “Morganville has such a rich story and passionate following, and we’re excited to have a wonderful collaborator in Rachel Caine to adapt and bring the franchise to life onscreen for current audiences and new ones this summer.”
The first installment of Caine’s 15-novel series, Glass House, debuted in 2006. Several of the books have made the New York Times best-seller list. Combined, they have sold more than three million copies worldwide.
Caine raised nearly $82,000 on Kickstarter in July 2013 to adapt the novels into a web series.
“It’s an amazing process we’ve gone through to see Morganville come to life,” Caine said. “The Kickstarter initiative was a way to really involve the readers in making Morganville a reality. We were extremely lucky to have had such great response and enthusiasm from the fans all through this process. I am thrilled that Geek & Sundry now is taking this series to the next level.”
Morganville joins superhero comedy Caper and Wil Wheaton‘s board game show TableTop at Geek & Sundry.
