Longtime media executive Corey Moss has teamed with writer Brad T. Gottfred to form Bold Soul Studios, a production company that will create programming for emerging platforms.
Bold Soul will develop both scripted and unscripted programming by tapping into Gottfred’s background as a novelist and playwright in the YA space as well as Moss’ background as a producer on digital projects.
The Studio City-based company has inked an overall deal with This Is Just a Test Media, producer of TLC’s I Am Jazz docuseries and Animal Planet’s Project Grizzly. It has also struck a multiproject pact with Lip Sync Battle producers Matador Content to develop scripted content. Additional partners include NFL Players Association’s ACE Media and Ranker.
Moss most recently served as senior vp development at Hearst Digital Studios, where he executive produced digital series QB1 and Top Grier for the go90 app through the Complex Networks joint venture between Hearst and Verizon. During his three years at Hearst, he developed more than a dozen longform digital projects. Prior to joining Hearst, Moss was senior vp digital at Principato-Young Entertainment. He also spent several years at MTV and Yahoo.
Gottfred wrote and directed web series Sex and Love Conspire to Destroy the World, which debuted on MyDamnChannel in 2013. He has published two novels, including The Nerdy and the Dirty, with a third expected in 2018, and wrote and directed the play Women Are Crazy Because Men Are A**holes.
Moss and Gottfred previously collaborated on The Boonies, a 12-part comedy mystery series released on go90 earlier this year. They say Bold Soul has optioned several novels and is working with authors to develop projects that range in length from shortform to longform. With ACE, they are developing a series for NFL players and other athletes. Meanwhile, they are working with Ranker to develop the digital publisher’s video strategy, which will include Facebook video and branded content.
