Lexus has finally unveiled a real-world version of its much-teased hoverboard at a specially built skate park in Barcelona.
Fitted with superconducting magnets cooled to -300 degrees Fahrenheit, the board levitates by interacting with metal embedded in the skatepark concrete using the principles of superconducting magnetic levitation.
Lexus hired pro skateboarder Ross McGouran to put the thing through its paces — the resulting video revealed the board requires tweaking proven ‘boarding techniques, but once McGouran got his groove, the stunts looked pretty, well, supercool — especially gliding over water.
Endless bummer: the board has to be refilled with nitrogen every 10 minutes or so.
Lexus posted a video that explains it all.
