Manticore Games’ free video game creation platform Core launched on Thursday in Early Access on the Epic Games Store.
The platform includes over 20,000 games across a variety of genres including battle royale, platformers, role-playing, survival, farming simulators, shooters, puzzle, party games and more.
“Core’s games showcase what’s possible when the power of creation is made accessible to anyone,” said Jordan Maynard, chief creative officer and co-founder at the San Mateo-based Manticore Games, an independent company. “We built Core to open gaming to a new wave of creators from all backgrounds. That new generation is already publishing amazing experiences that rival those of big studios or that big studios wouldn’t even think of making.”
The Game Awards’ curator Geoff Keighley will host a Core Games Showcase live on Twitch at 10 a.m. PT, featuring Core creators as well as YouTube stars.
Core was launched in open alpha mode in 2020 by Maynard and Frederic Descamps, founder and CEO of Manticore Games. The platform allows anyone with a PC to design, share, publish and play games using Epic’s Unreal Engine, even if they have little coding experience. Additionally, creators receive a 50 percent revenue share.
In March, the company unveiled $100 million in Series C funding to accelerate growth of the platform. Now with its launch in the Epic Games Store, Manticore will continue adding new features for players and users, including an assets marketplace.
