Twitter analytics startup SocialRank is getting the support of some big media backers.
The New York firm announced on its blog that it has raised more than $1 million in seed funding from investors that include Shari Redstone‘s Advancit Capital (which counts News Corp. veteran Jonathan Miller as a partner) and angel investor Charles King, a partner and motion picture agent at WME. The round was led by New York venture firm Vaizra and included participation from BOLDstart Ventures, Social Starts, Iowa City Capital Partners and a number of angel investors.
SocialRank was founded four months ago and already counts more than 5,000 brands as customers of its social analytics tools. The company helps those customers learn more information about the people who follow them on Twitter.
For example, SocialRank recently began working with The Queen Latifah Show to hand out prizes to its most avid Twitter followers during its #YouJustMay campaign. Followers who Tweet using that hashtag could win items such as Roku boxes or signed books and CDs.
SocialRank also has announced the launch of the SocialRank Market Intelligence tool, which allows brands to run analysis on any Twitter handle to find out who their most engaged followers are — which could be useful in targeting a competitor’s loyal (and vocal) customers.
