Michael Schreiber, formerly the president of Tapestry Films, has been named president, scripted content for Studio71, the media company behind billions of views on YouTube and Facebook, among other channels.
In the newly created position, Schreiber will focus on developing and producing content for both streaming and traditional media platforms. He will report to Studio71 CEO Reza Izad.
“Michael understands our audience and has an outstanding industry track record,” Studio71 president Dan Weinstein said Monday in a statement. “His addition to the team demonstrates our ongoing commitment to premium content. He will help us expand our ability to serve the growing demand from digital platforms as well as more traditional media outlets by affording opportunities for our top tier creators.”
One of Schreiber’s first projects at Studio71 will see him shepherding Lifeline, an action thriller series from Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia’s Seven Bucks Productions. The title is due to debut on YouTube RED later this year.
Schreiber has spent the past 12 years at Tapestry, rising through the ranks to eventually hold the title of president. He was key in the development and overseeing of movies such as Wedding Crashers, Employee of the Month, The Comebacks and Old Dogs, as well as the Van Wilder franchise. The exec launched the company’s television arm and developed for both cable and broadcast.
Schreiber also worked at Miramax/Dimension Films and got his start in documentaries, assisting filmmakers Liz Garbus and Rory Kennedy.
Studio71 has deals for shortform content with Facebook, Watchable, Go90, Liberty Global, YouTube Red, ZDF, Canal Plus, Live.me and many others. It also is active in the branded content sphere and last year produced hundreds of brand executions for companies such as Coca-Cola, McDonalds, Amazon, Nissan and Verizon, among others.
