Cable network Nat Geo WILD has tapped Mashable to produce two digital series for its online and social platforms.
The series, which Nat Geo WILD and Mashable will co-produce and co-distribute, will make use of old footage from National Geographic’s film archives. The first series will focus on how animals use tools to survive in their habitats and the second, a comedy series, will mix Mashable’s internet fluency with vintage film footage.
“Nat Geo WILD is thrilled to partner with Mashable on this exciting new venture,” network general manager Geoff Daniels said Thursday in a statement. “By combining National Geographic’s 128-year legacy of adventure and exploration with Mashable’s innovative, best-in-the-business digital expertise, we are poised to create quality content that our audiences will love. The collaboration further strengthens our commitment to deliver fun, engaging content anywhere and everywhere for our viewers.”
The partnership comes as Mashable, originally a blog started by Pete Cashmore, has made a push into original online video content through its Mashable Studios division, launched in 2015. Last year, Turner led a $15 million investment into Mashable that was part of a larger strategic partnership to create content for both digital and linear distribution. It also has teamed with NBCUniversal’s Bravo to create original digital series.

Both series are set to begin production in early 2017.
