Nearly two months after announcing the launch of its entertainment division, Vox Media shared more details about the video content that it’s making.
At a small, unofficial NewFront presentation on Thursday, Vox — which owns websites such as SB Nation, Eater and The Verge — showcased a number of its digital series, including MKBHD Explains. The show, which streams on tech site The Verge, stars YouTuber Marques Brownlee breaking down important tech trends.
In addition, news site Vox.com will launch pop culture explainer series Vox Pop, which goes in depth on topics like why Taylor Swift songs are so catchy. SB Nation also has developed Origins, a series that began as the result of an idea in the comments section on the website, and explores the beginnings of today’s most popular athletes.
Vox Entertainment has also renewed the scripted series Try Hards. From comedy duo SRSLY, the Racked series will return to tell the story of Alex and Danielle as they do what it takes to make it in the fashion world. Eater series Savvy is also back for a second season, featuring chefs, restaurateurs and sommeliers breaking down how they make some of the most difficult dishes.
Vox announced the launch of its entertainment division in March with the news that it had signed with WME. At the time, the company also announced a deal with Top Chef production company Magical Elves on a food series for Eater.
CEO Jim Bankoff started off the presentation by explaining that this is the “era of building great media brands that are expressly created for modern audiences.” He later noted that while Vox reaches millennials just like its competitors, it also reaches “consumers who prefer to consume their news digitally.”
During the presentation, Vox also announced that it is making content platform Chorus available to advertisers with DigitasLBi signed on as its launch partner.
