One billion people used Facebook on Monday, Aug. 24, a milestone for the social media company.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the achievement on his Facebook page Thursday, noting that this means one-in-seven people in the world — or about a third of people with access to Internet — used the social network. “This was the first time we reached this milestone, and it’s just the beginning of connecting the whole world,” he wrote.
It was only a matter of time before the social network reached these traffic levels. Facebook doesn’t typically break out a single day’s traffic, instead averaging out daily and monthly traffic over the quarter. During the second quarter of this year, the company reported that average daily active users had hit 968 million, while average monthly mobile active users hit 1.49 billion.
