The death of Osama bin Laden fueled a Twitter record Sunday night.
According to the social networking company, Twitter users posted messages at an average rate of 3,440 tweets per second between 10:45 p.m. and 2:20 a.m. ET, when regular programming was pre-empted to cover news of bin Laden’s death and President Barack Obama’s address to the nation.That’s the highest rate of “sustained” tweeting ever, Twitter says.
At the peak, users posted more than 5,100 messages per second.
No word on what events Sunday’s news beat out to claim that record.
