Fullscreen is looking to a cable TV veteran to help it transform into a consumer-facing media business.
The YouTube network has appointed Jason Klarman as its first chief marketing officer. Klarman, who will report to Fullscreen CEO George Strompolos, will lead marketing strategy and operations across the business.
Before joining Fullscreen, Klarman was president of Hashtag Media Ideas, where he consulted with digital-first companies on marketing and content strategy. Prior to that, he spent nearly six years at Oxygen, three of them as president. During his tenure with the cable network, he oversaw the re-launch of the brand and was responsible for The Glee Project, Tori & Dean and other unscripted series. Klarman, who spent his early career at Fox News, also served as exec vp marketing and digital at Bravo and played a role in the 2005 re-brand of the network.

“Jason has a track record of connecting brands with passionate audiences who push the culture forward,” said Strompolos. “He’s defined brands at the forefront of the media business, and as Fullscreen evolves into a consumer-facing media company, there’s no one more qualified at the helm.”
Strompolos founded Fullscreen in 2011 as an advertising network for YouTube stars, but as the business has evolved the company has placed an emphasis on producing content. The company, which is majority owned by AT&T and The Chernin Group’s Otter Media, is currently prepping a subscription video service that will feature original and licensed content, including Grace Helbig and Hannah Hart’s Electra Woman and Dyna Girl remake. The launch of the service will be a test of whether Fullscreen can adjust from a primarily services-oriented business into a consumer-facing brand.
“Fullscreen is transforming the way content is created, consumed and monetized,” said Klarman. “I couldn’t be more excited to join the team as it navigates this incredibly exciting, transformative time in the media business.”
