VidCon is returning for its sixth year with an emphasis on the evolving online video landscape.
The annual three-day conference, which will take place at the Anaheim Convention Center from July 23 to July 25, has lined up keynote speeches from Vessel CEO Jason Kilar, Twitter’s head of TV Baljeet Singh and GoPro media chief Zander Lurie.
“The goal has always been to reflect the state of online video as it is,” says VidCon co-founder Hank Green, a YouTube creator himself who started the conference in 2010 with brother John Green. “There’s a huge conversation to be had about platform diversification.”
Over the last six years, VidCon has turned into an annual stop for YouTubers, fans and media executives, alike. This year, VidCon expects more than 300 creators and more than 20,000 attendees. The conference is typically split into an industry track, for online video, media and entertainment professionals, and fan events.
But this year, VidCon is also creating a separate creator track with programming designed to address their questions about video editing and building audiences in a more curated setting. The industry track, which runs from July 23 to July 24, will feature panels that touch on topics from building in-house branded agencies to the growing appetite for books from top creators.
Green says people have asked him to split VidCon into separate events focused specifically on industry, creator or fan needs. But he says that part of the appeal of the event is the blending of all those people over three days.
“I really want to make it clear to everyone in the industry that the value in what we’re doing lies in the enthusiasm of people who love the content,” he says. “I think that can get lost, but it’s important to me to never forget that every one of those numbers at the bottom of my YouTube video is a person.”
